I noticed a couple minutes ago that both my cats were staring intently out the window. This is pretty normal, there's a bird feeder right there for their entertainment, but they looked like they were staring at something a little closer than usual. So I went over to look, and there is this tiny little sparrow (or something - small brown bird, what, I'm not an ornithologist, they're there to entertain the cats), maybe two inches away on the other side of the screen. It was entirely unconcerned by the two cats, and y'know, maybe it's a smart bird - the screen was there, the cats weren't going to get through it, but still, isn't there some self-preservation instinct going on? Anyhow, it was pretty awesome, and I got this shot of Chaucer looking up at Dante with the bird just over his shoulder.
